Fears for jobs at Broken Cross

JOBS in the Douglas Valley could be under threat after Scottish Coal confirmed that it was to cut almost 200 jobs this year.

The company has a total of five sites in and around Douglas and Glespin and any job cuts would be a blow to those living in the area.

A Scottish Coal spokesman said: “Scottish Coal has advised its union representatives and employees that the company is starting a formal consultation process aiming to reducing its overall workforce.

“This may result in a net loss of between 100 and 195 jobs across all of the company’s operations.

“The consultation period will last for 90 days and the company will make every effort to keep job losses to a minimum.”
