Fears that Lanark Sheriff Court will be closed down

THERE are fears that Lanark Sheriff Court will be closed down as part of the government economy drive.

The Scottish Court Service has confirmed rumours that the busy court at the heart of Clydesdale’s justice system is part of a “review” to run the court service within a smaller budget.

Although the Service adds that it is “far too early to speculate on the future of Lanark Sheriff Court”, local legal insiders have told the Gazette that Lanark is among a group of ten of Scotland’s smaller, mostly rural, courts being eyed for closure, their caseloads being transferred to larger `hub’ courts, in our case to Airdrie.
