Films tackle violence against women

The exhibition is just one part of thousands of events happening around the world as part of the UN’s international campaign for the elimination of gender-based violence.

Taboo-busting films will highlight issues such as sexual consent, female genital mutilation and domestic abuse.

Glasgow’s Violence Against Women Partnership is supporting the campaign by co-ordinatinglocal activities to challenge unacceptable behaviour and let women know they need not suffer in 
silence.

The exhibition is taking place in the Round Room of the gallery.

It started on November 25 and runs until December 10.

In addition, Asda in Govan is printing the number of the Scottish Domestic Abuse helpline on the back of till receipts and will host a free event with stalls offering advice from Police Scotland, local law centres and women’s support groups on Thursday, December 3.

Men are being asked to join the fight against domestic violence by signing the White Ribbon pledge and showing their support by wearing the campaign’s symbol.

Badges will be available at various outlets across the city including from members of the Glasgow Warriors Fan Club who raised awareness of the campaign at the team’s home game on November 27 and will be back for the next one tonight (Thursday).

The city was awarded White Ribbon status by White Ribbon Scotland.

The campaign co-ordinated by Community Safety Glasgow involves all Glasgow City Council services and arms-length organisations.

It spearheads the message: “I pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.”
