Final countdown to first two prospective primary school mergers

East Dunbartonshire Council are set to meet before the end of January to have a final vote on the proposed merger between Auchinairn Primary School, Woodhill Primary School and Cleddens Learning and Childcare Centre on the Woodhill Primary site in Bishopbriggs.

They will also decide whether to proceed with combining Lenzie Moss Primary School and Lenzie Primary School and nursery class, in a new building on the current Lenzie Moss Primary site.

If, as expected, the administration councillors vote to proceed then the council will notify the Scottish Government within six days.

The Scottish Ministers will then have six weeks to decide whether to call in that decision for review - with campaigners able to make representations directly to ministers for the first three weeks of the process.

Worried parents have vowed to fight on and are hoping that, even if councillors greenlight the merger, the Scottish Government will block the moves.

Auchinairn mum Sharon Moir said: “The people of Auchinairn are asking East Dunbartonshire Council to listen to their views, take them seriously, and urge them to reconsider their proposed plans.

“We are asking the council to help what is a strong, close knit community keep the school which has been here for over 200 years, and help us rebuild it for our young people. The school is part of our heritage, which the people of Auchinairn are very proud of.”
