But on Monday, Kelly Macdonald returned to her old school for a very special opening.

The actress who first appeared in the Scottish film Trainspotting was unveiling a plaque dedicated to her as she officially opened the school’s state-of-the-art drama studio and theatre.

The Hollywood actress was said to be ‘gobsmacked’ at the changes since she sat in class as she marvelled at the new Eastwood High school.

The No Country for Old Men star was given a tour of the new building by head teacher Stuart Maxwell and some of the sixth-year pupils.

Kelly then went on to meet the school’s other pupils.

Mr Maxwell later said: “I would like to personally thank Kelly for taking the time to come along and open our drama school and theatre.

“It was fantastic that she took tiime to speak to each individual pupils and it created a real buzz within our school.”

After Kelly had unveiled the commemorative plaque, she told the school’s first year pupils how pleased she was to be touring the new building and how much it has changed since her school days, between the years of 1987 and 1993.

The Boardwalk Empire star also revealed that her first drama class was upstairs in nearby Capelrig House.

Other first-rate films Kelly has appeared in include Disney’s Brave and Gosford Park.
