A Giffnock dance studio are doing more than cheering after learning they have been selected to take part in the World Dance Championships - in Florida!

Jam Dance and Cheer opened its doors in August 2003 with only a handful of dancers by coach Jacqueline McGrory in Giffnock North AC - and who’d have thought that 12 years later they’d be competing at World Championship level!

In June this year the senior pom team won their division in the Jamfest Europe Competition in Liverpool which then resulted in them being a given a bid to compete at the highest level of competition in their sport.

Jacqueline spoke to The Extra saying: “The girls are all from East Renfrewshire and attend local schools. They are working hard at training, fundraising and many of the girls also have part time jobs in local businesses. It’s a very busy time for them but it’s worth it to get the chance for your dreams to come true.”

The girls will be competing against teams from all over the world including China, Mexico, America and Australia as well as teams from the UK.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for the team”, said Jacqueline “but also an expensive one as flights, accommodation and new uniforms need to be paid for. “

If any local businesses would be interested in sponsoring the team in return for advertising Jam Dance and Cheer would love to hear from you by emailing: [email protected]
