Flying high at Bishopbriggs cycle festival

East Dunbartonshire’s Cycle Co-operative held its EDs Cycle Festival at Etive Park in Bishopbriggs on Sunday (June 17).

The festival, which was opened by Fiona McLeod MSP, included primary pupil races, bouncy castles, a forest track, downhill dual slalom races, Go Mountain bike training, a 10ft outdoor screen and a fantastic live show by the Clan, Scotland’s leading cycle stunt team.

Riders also got the chance to test their stunt skills in safety using the airbag, a unique inflatable air cushion that lets extreme sports users practice their tricks.

And sponsors Samsung and Maoam were there, offering products and merchandise to the first 100 people at the festival.

Mark Kiehlmann, founder of the Cycle Co-op, said: “We’re delighted, it lived up to our expectations and exceeded them. It’s been a phenomenal success so far and it continues to grow.

“The fact we’re getting sponsors like Samsung and Maoam shows how big the festival has got. If East Dunbartonshire Council supports it we’ve got the opportunity to grow this festival into a major event.

“We are already looking forward to next year.”

It’s estimated that around 2,000 people attended the event.
