Flying the flag for the Armed Forces

A SPECIAL flag has been unveiled in North Lanarkshire ahead of Armed Forces Day which takes place on Saturday, June 30.

Armed forces veterans joined North Lanarkshire Council Provost Jim Robertson and Deputy Lieutenant of Lanarkshire David Cranston to unfurl the flag on Monday, June 26, at the local authority’s Motherwell headquarters.

Veterans at the event came from the Cameronian Regiment, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force, Royal Engineers Cumbernauld (124), Highland Light Infantry and there was also representatives from other forces who have served in places such as North Africa, Cyprus and Italy.

Provost Jim Robertson said: “We are proud to raise the flag here in North Lanarkshire in support of our forces personnel past, present and future and to recognise the tremendous sacrifices they make for their country.

“Armed Forces Day provides an annual opportunity for people to show support for the men and women of the forces, their families, veterans and the cadet forces and is an important occasion here in North Lanarkshire.”
