But more and more people are turning to them and they are, for whateven reason, becoming essential as people struggle with the constraints placed upon the economy.

Now, one southside takeaway has decided to help out in its own way.

CC’s , Glasgow’s first authentic wood-fired pizza shop, has been involved over Easter weekend in helping out the East Renfrewshire Foodbank.

From Good Friday until Easter Monday the Clarkston Road takaway has donated £1 from every pizza sold to the good cause.

This collective ambition has managed to bring in a whopping £360 — £240 from CC’s and a generous donation from one of CC’s suppliers, Lomond Fine Foods, of £120 made a fine Easter gift for the foodbank.

Graeme Rankin, the owner of CC’s, said: “East Renfrewshire Foodbank does a fantastic job helping those people who require emergency assistance — we want to do our bit in supporting their efforts.

“We were delighted to donate £1 from every pizza sold during the four-day Easter holiday weekend to the local foodbank.

“We were hoping to raise awareness of the need for the foodbank locally and that people would take a moment from their own festivities to remember those struggling to make ends meet.”

East Renfrewshire Foodbank has given out approximately 11 tonnes of food during the last seven months.

Ag Law, co-ordinator of the foodbank, said: “Our heartfelt thanks to CC’s Wood-Fired Pizza Takeaway for thinking of the needs of those individuals and families in the district who are struggling, especially during this holiday period.

“We are delighted that a local, East Renfrewshire business is supporting the foodbank with a fundraising event.

“Over the last seven months the foodbank has fed 1,346 people — 470 of which were children — with three days of meals from its Welcome Centres in Barrhead and Thornliebank.”

CC’s extended its opening hours for the weekend to rais emore cash for the charity.
