Sadly he passed away later that night at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The tragedy happened minutes into the match which kicked off at 6.45pm.

Shettleston goalkeeper Bryn Halliwell, who is believed to work for the fire service, rushed to the man’s aid and desperately tried to revive him, along with Petershill first-aiders Jim Mooney and Chris Ketterer.

Referee Stephen Reid called off the match immediately, while players and spectators looked on in disbelief.

Paramedics were called to the Adamswell Street complex around 7pm and are thought to have carried out CPR on the man before taking him to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

“Our thoughts are with his wife and family at this very sad time.

“We would like to thank all of those who helped last night.”
