Footballer opens new skin cancer centre

Footballer Jordan Moore (21), who is currently on loan at Hampden based side Queens Park from SPL team Dundee United, cut the ribbon on the centre last Thursday.

Melanoma Action and Support Scotland (MASScot) had their grand opening of the organisation’s new support centre that has been set up to help raise funds and provide therapies for melanoma and skin cancer patients and their carers.

Jordan, who began his footballing career playing for East Dunbartonshire boys club is no stranger to melanoma after being diagnosed with the disease early last year after he discovered a seemingly harmless looking mole.After two operations, the striker is now back playing football full time for the Hampden outfit and encourages those worried about moles to consult their doctor. The centre, which is based at St Enoch Square, provides therapy, office and retail space.

MASScot aims to ensure that patients are supported throughout their diagnosis and beyond and offer a range of therapies and methods of support during a difficult time. The new centre is handy for major transport links and ensures that MASScot’s service users are able to seek support when they need it most.

The centre’s chair Leigh Smith MBE said: “This new centre gives us a great space which allows us to continue to provide one to one support for both patients and carers. Our services are crucial considering that melanoma is one of the most common cancers in young adults aged 15-34. “
