Forum set up to handle bus issues

CUMBERNAULD now has a forum dedicated to discussing issues affecting bus users.

This came about following a public meeting to discuss changes to the X2 bus route in Blackwood.

MSP Cathie Craigie, who organised that meeting, subsequently contacted the bus users who attended to recruit volunteers who have now joined the bus forum whose inaugural meeting was held on March 8.

The Cumbernauld and Kilsyth MSP explained: "This is a forum that brings together people from across Cumbernauld.

"It will be an arena where any problems people have with the buses in the area can be addressed, and suggestions for improvement put forward.

The concerns will be passed on to community councils, bus suppliers, and Strathclyde Partnerhsip for Transport.

"The forum will debate and scrutinise the bus service in our area.

"I have been in touch with First Bus and they have agreed to send a senior official to the meetings. Other bus companies will have a similar opportunity.

"I am glad that those who have joined the forum are willing to play such an active role in our community, but if anybody else would like to join, to have their views heard, they are more than welcome, and should contact my office on 01236 825372."
