Forum slams Cumbernauld town centre's retail park stance

Cumbernauld Community Forum chairman Billy Lees has stated that members are up in arms at the controversial judicial review harnessed by Cumbernauld Centre and Antonine Centre bosses.

The proposal was given the green light over the summer but the town centre bosses believe that the plans were more extensive than council chiefs were led to believe and therefore a threat to their business.

Mr Lees said: “I think it is a disgrace that the that town centre management are taking the the council to court to stop these units being built.”

The thorny topic is set to be discussed at the last meeting of the forum to be held this year.

It will take place on the Cumbernauld campus of New College Lanarkshire on Tuesday, December 13 at 7pm.

Mr Lees added: “We will also be catching up with what is happening with our health service at Monklands Hospital.”

He also wishes to discuss the subject of ‘people power’ and how this can be harnessed for the common good.

Mr Lees said: “It is great when the communities campaign and fight for what they believe in – like the Kildrum people did when they stopped another off-license opening two weeks ago.”
