Foster carers needed to help kids stay in East Ren

The call for foster carers continues across East Ren, with the local fostering team hosting a stall at Barrhead Foundry on Wednesday.

Anyone interested in transforming the lives of youngsters in need can get more info on September 23, 5-7pm.

East Renfrewshire’s HSCP (Health and Social Care Partnership) fostering team recently launched a campaign, featuring characters Kyle and Kate, encouraging more people to step forward.

A spokeswoman for East Renfrewshire Council said: “Being placed with the right foster carers locally will give East Ren
teenagers and children the opportunity to continue their education in the same area, keep the same circle of friends.

“It will give them the stability to thrive with a family that can give them the love and support that they need.

“There’s also a need for foster carers who can foster siblings, to keep brothers and sisters together.

“Foster carers will be supported by East Renfrewshire HSCP.”

The drive to find more local carers follows a lack of placements within the area — meaning many youngsters have been fostered outwith East Ren.

Councillor Alan Lafferty, convener for health and social care, said: “If you are interested in helping children in need, have time and energy, a sense of humour and an ability to talk to children, the fostering team would like to hear from you.

“Our existing foster carers feel well supported and they will help you to learn about the challenges and rewards of caring for a child who has lived in difficult circumstances.

“You will receive training and social workers are available at all times to offer advice and support.”
