Four parties to battle it out for seats

Four candidates are each standing in the Motherwell and Wishaw constituency and the Uddingston and Bellshill constituency in next month's Scottish Parliament election.

In Motherwell and Wishaw, John Pentland is aiming to be reelected for Labour and faces opposition from the SNP’s Clare Adamson, Conservative’s Meghan Gallacher and Liberal Democrat’s Yvonne Finlayson.

In Uddingston and Bellshill Michael McMahon wishes to retain his seat for Labour against the SNP’s Richard Lyle, Conservative’s Andy Morrison and Liberal Democrat’s Kaitey Blair.

To be able to vote in the election on May 5, residents who are 16 or over must be registered to vote by this Monday.

Each person now has responsibility to register individually and can

do so online

Polling cards have been issued to those people already registered to vote, so if you haven’t already received a card, call North Lanarkshire Council’s election office on 01698 302119 or send an e-mail

The deadline for new postal and postal proxy votes is 5pm on Tuesday and for new proxy votes, it is 5pm on Tuesday, April 26.
