Four rescued from blaze at Bishopbriggs tenement

Emergency crews rushed to Kenmure Avenue in Bishopbriggs shortly after 10.35am this morning (Monday, March 14) in response to the first of several 999 calls.

Paramedics treated the four people – a woman and three men – for burns and smoke inhalation at the scene.

A fire service spokesperson said first responders reached the scene within five minutes of an emergency call and were confronted with a well-developed blaze within a flat on the first floor of the three-storey building.

He added: “Six firefighters in breathing apparatus were sent in to tackle the flames and the team led two people from the premises before completing a systematic search that confirmed everyone was accounted for.

“Crews provided them with initial treatment for burns and the effects of breathing in smoke.

“The firefighters requested the attendance of the ambulance service and in total four people – a woman and three men – were passed to the care of paramedics.”

Eight appliances were still at the scene around 12.30pm as firefighters continue to check adjacent properties for any fire spread.

Specialist officers from the Scottish Fire Rescue Service Fire Investigation Unit were also at the scene and will work with police to investigate the cause of the blaze.
