Peter Capaldi (55) – who attended St Teresa’s Primary in Possilpark, St Matthew’s Primary in Bishopbriggs and St Ninian’s High, Kirkintilloch – will be the 12th actor to play the Doctor, replacing outgoing lead Matt Smith.

The Oscar-winner was formerly a member of Antonine Players.

East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson said: “Peter Capaldi is an absolutely fantastic choice to play the next Doctor.

“It’s wonderful that he’s gone from being a member of our local Antonine Players to stepping into the Tardis!”
