From tennis balls to flower bulbs

The work was in preparation for the Keep Scotland Beautiful Cumbernauld area judging day to be held on August 12.

Dullatur has also entered in the Royal Horticultural Society’s “It’s our Neighbourhood” campaign. North Lanarkshire delivered over 100 shrubs, so the call went out and the club responded. Many hands made light work and the beautiful weather made a diffence.

Margaret Smillie, secretary of Dullatur Community Council and Cumbernauld Environmental Society, stated that the village upgrades that are underway have transformed areas in the village that were an eyesore.

“The regeneration of the area has been complimented by the residents,” she said.

“We have had invaluable help in the first part of a three-stage project from NLC senior officers and staff and volunteers from Scottish and Southern Energy, Cumbernauld Rotary Club, members of Cumbernuald Envinronmental Society and residents of Dullatur.

“From the very young to the endangered species “our teenagers” through to the older residents, they are all helping to make Dullatur sparkle again.

“Dullatur Village groups, local businesses and residents have donated generously to fund the hundreds of plants required.

“The next stage of the project, to create a frog pond and nature area, will be more difficult as that will require the aid of grant funding. So we have a real challenge ahead.”
