1902

KILSYTH Kirk Session discussed the appointment of a minister for the new church at Twechar. For some twenty years the people of Twechar had been ecclesiastically looked after by the minister at Kilsyth, as the majority of Twechar families chose to attend church in Kilsyth. However the village was technically part of St David’s parish in Kirkintilloch, even though hardly anyone from Twechar went there, and Kilsyth ministers were furious about not getting a say on the appointment at the new Twechar church.

THOSE hoping to enjoy some open-air skating on their Saturday half-holiday were left disappointed as a sharp spell of frost gave way to a sudden, dramatic thaw. Heavy rains put paid to most forms of outdoor game, so fireside frolics were the favourite pastime.

DUNBARTONSHIRe Police were on the lookout for three special new recruits - but recruits with a difference, having four legs rather than two. The County Force had decided to introduce the use of police dogs with the establishment of a new section for this purpose.

The Highland Park store became the first outlet in Kilsyth to sell National Lottery tickets.
