Fun day for all in Kildrum

Hundreds poured into the grounds of Cumbernauld High School to enjoy a special event which promised to boost amenities in the area by incorporating a consultation exercise into the proceedings.

The Cumbernauld Citizens group which also incorporates the Kyle Trust wants to ascertain what the community wants in the area with a view to expanding its remit.

And a purpose-built headquarters in the oldest part of the new town is top of its wish list.

Cash from the Big Lottery’s Awards For All Fund had helped to make the day a reality – and members were able to avail of the service of a professional events organisation group to make everything go to plan.

Many local groups were represented at the event which had a healthy living slant. Attractions included a gymnastic display from the Jump group plus a demostration of Zumba. There was also a host of stalls, information points and even a free refreshments point.

The event had been opened with well-received speeches from MSP Jamie Hepburn and MP Gregg McClymont. Mr Hepburn said:“Saturday’s event was another demonstration of the fantastic community spirit that exists across Cumbernauld and Kilsyth. I was very pleased to be able to attend and I would like to congratulate everyone involved.”

Meanwhile Mr McClymont said: “Its always a pleasure to be back at my old school and I really enjoyed the event. Being Kildrum born and bred I’m especially delighted to see the Kyle Trust thriving”.

Rose Bowie of Cumbernauld Citizens said: “We got the first really good day in ages and so many people came along that it was hard to keep a tally. We’ve found out that a lot of people want to get involved with our work - a lot of attendees took memberships home to fill in at their leisure.

“I would like to thank everyone who made a contribution to making the day such a success,’’ she added.
