Funding hope falls by the wayside

Several local groups including Mearns Kirk church and East Renfrerwshire council got together to prepare and develop a detailed application to the Heritage Lottery fund.

Councillor Ian McAlpine told The Extra: “We were unsuccessful which is very upsetting as East Renfrewshire has never received a grant to improve its graveyards, yet other areas that have been successful before and have been winners again. This does not seem fair or equitable to me.

We wanted to improve this historic area in Newton Mearns for generations to come.”
