Fundraising in fond memory of Laura

Friends and family are gathering together to celebrate the life of a much-loved former St Ninian’s girl in aid of a charity close to their hearts.

Friday’s (July 3) fundraiser is in honour of Laura McArthur, on what would have been her 30th birthday.

Laura, from Clarkston, passed away in April 2013, aged 27, following treatment for breast cancer.

Friend Mary Skene told The Extra: “Prior to her illness, Laura was a research assistant for the University of Glasgow, having successfully obtained a degree in psychology. This was just one of many achievements in her full life cut short.”

Before university, Laura attended St Joseph’s Primary and St Ninian’s High, where she was head girl from 2002-03.

Mary added: “As head girl ,she took to charity fundraising by organising various events throughout the school year, with the help of her fellow pupils. Laura loved school and took to her head girl role with the organisational and rallying skills that defined her.”

Laura’s love of fundraising has now inspired friends and family to raise cash for the Beatson Cancer Charity — and they’ll be doing so at a southside venue from 8pm on Friday, with a ceilidh, disco, buffet, raffle, tombola and more planned.
