Future is bright for Eaglesham teen star

The Mearns Castle High pupil has made it to the regional finals of the UK-wide singing competition, taking place this Saturday — and the talented teen has high hopes for breaking into the music biz.

Brittany (14) told The Extra: “My twin sister Rachelle and I have always sang in front of family, at special occasions, and my eldest sister Kaitlyn played saxophone and I remember wanting to learn an instrument just like her.

“At the age of eight I got a drum kit and started percussion lessons — then when I was 10, I picked up my sister’s guitar and started teaching myself.”

The youngster is now adding to her repertoire by learning the keyboard and ukulele — not to mention writing her own catalogue of songs.

Brittany added: “On Saturday I’ll be performing a song called Stay Strong. I wrote it for a close family friends who has been diagnosed with cancer for the second time, in the the hope that it would lift her spirits.

“I’m hoping to put the song on iTunes and donate any money received from it to a cancer charity.”

The young singer hopes to be involved in the music industry when she grows up — and the TeenStar competition, run by Future Music, may see her off to a great start as the company is behind names like Jahmene Douglas, Lucy Spraggan, Birdy and previous winner Luke Friend.
