Future of Clydesdale schools in doubt

THE future of several Clydesdale schools is in doubt after the council's Executive Committee agreed to embark on a detailed consultation process in relation to a number of proposals for school mergers.

The council's financial plight will see the future of 12 schools debated.

Consultations will be carried out between October and March 2011 with the future of eight schools in question.

Primary schools in Crawfordjohn, Abington, Crawford and Leadhills Primary School could all be merged to a new school built on the existing Abington Primary site.

Coulter, Tinto, Lamington and Libberton could also be merged.

Ridgepark School, in Lanark, could also be closed with the

pupils merging with Kittoch School on a new site in Blantyre.

Additionally, from March next year consultation will be carried out on merging Bent and Blackwood Primaries as well as schools in Carstairs and Carstairs Junction.
