Gala Day is set to be a splash hit

A CASH-STRAPPED gala day has received a bumper £2,000 donation.

Cumbernauld Gala Day takes place on Saturday, July 3.

The major cash gift came from Scottish Water.

Donald MacBrayne, business development manager at Scottish Water's Deerdykes recycling facility, said: "Since we opened Deerdykes in 2005 we have worked extremely closely with people in the community.

"We are very much part of the fabric of Cumbernauld and most of our 15 staff are from the area, so it's right we are contributing and putting something back."

He added: "The gala day organisers put in a fantastic effort and want to help make this one of the most popular events on the local calendar."

Gala day forum chairman Billy Lees was delighted with the donation.

He said: "As a result, the gala day has actually come on a lot. There were a lot of things on the back burner because we thought we wouldn't be able to afford them.

"I think it appealed to Scottish Water because we are trying to highlight healthy eating and healthy living at the event via NHS stalls.

"Mr MacBrayne's enthusiastic about that sort of thing, because he is into biodiversity and green issues."
