Gambling with future of Lanark’s Tote tower

ALL bets are now off on how long the last Lanark Racecourse building still standing can survive.

Despite the fact that it holds such an important place in both Royal Burgh and national racing history, the 83-year-old Tote Tower, the first ever built in Scotland and an official Listed Buildling, is now open to the wind and rain after the recent storms added even more damage to that done by over 30 years of neglect.

The tower, once a proud symbol of Lanark having reputedly the finest racecourse in Scotland, now stands as a sad eyesore on the approaches to the town.
