Game, set and match – sporting chance to be next Andy Murray

Jonathan Horn, the new head coach at Lenzie Tennis Club, came up with the idea of introducing a summer camp shortly after taking up his role in February.

It’s just the first in a series of new initiatives planned by Jonathan, who previously coached in the USA and is currently working towards his grade four coaching qualification - one behind national coach Judy Murray.

And he was delighted with the number of 5-14 year olds who turned up, despite the wet weather.

He said: “The summer camp is the first to be run at the club and it has been successful so far. We have a different theme every day at the camp which has included fancy dress, treasure hunts, quizzes, water fights and pizza Fridays.

“The aim of the camp is to introduce children to tennis in a fun environment and give them the basic fundamentals in one week to play a game of tennis.”

He added: “Since taking over at the club I have grow the junior programme from 54 to 118 by visiting local schools in the Lenzie and Kirkintilloch area.

“We have a full programme to cater for all ages 5-18 and I plan to grow the programme even more after the summer holidays by introducing adult coaching and cardio tennis - a fun new keep fit version of tennis played to music.”

The new coaching programme will be launched on Monday, August 20.
