Garvie & Co's support for Uncle Bob's charity cycle

Bob Taylor, known as Uncle Bob within the drinks industry, led a team of eight riders from the charity’s estate in Pitlochry to Milngavie, via Dunblane and Buchlyvie to raise over £3,500 for The Scottish Licensed Trade Benevolent Society (The BEN).

The event marked the 30th anniversary of Bob’s first cycling adventure for The BEN, when he pedalled from Pitlochry to Brighton in 1986.

Bob said: “This year’s cycle was much shorter than going to Brighton but I was a bit younger then so it was just as big a challenge for my legs!

“The support we received was superb and I’d like to extend particular thanks to the people at Molson Coors for their fundraising support and provision of post-cycle refreshments. We’re also extremely grateful to Dooleys Cycles in Paisley and the Garvie and Co restaurant in Milngavie for their kind donation of supplies for during and after the ride.

“The value of the work which The BEN does can’t be underestimated and it’s an organisation I’m proud to have supported for more than 30 years. New members and supporters are always welcome so don’t be shy about getting in touch.”

The BEN delivers social, financial and emotional support to anyone who has worked full-time in the Scottish licensed trade for at least three years. The organisation also operates The BEN Pitlochry Estate, consisting of 18 bungalows which are rented at subsidised rates to its members.
