OK, FIRSTLY, hands up – it has taken a while to get the first entries in the Gazette’s photography contest judged and in the paper!

I will not bore you with the reasons for that – a set of circumstances which collided to cause the perfect storm.

However, we are now back on track folks and I’m delighted to be able to bring you the three winners in the landscape category who will go through to the finals at the 2013 Lanarkshire Art and Photography EXPO.

And the runners-up are: Approach to Carmichael by Ruth Nelson; View of Nemphlar by Donald Thompson; Falls of Clyde by Donald Thompson; and Tinto Hill by Maria Park.

The three winners will now fight it out with the other category finalists at the EXPO for the first, second and third place.

Bringing me on nicely to the remainder of the contest.

The next two categories are people and nature/wildlife. The closing date for entries is Wednesday, August 28.

I would really appreciate it if people would only submit entries this month for people and nature/wildlife!!

All of the winning entries will be featured at the 2013 Lanarkshire Art and Photography EXPO, where the overall winners will also be revealed.

The event will be held at Lanark Agricultural Centre on Sunday, October 6, from 10am to 4pm.

We teamed up with its organiser John Zawadzki, from Clydesdale Camera Club, to launch the photography contest and, if the first set of pictures are anything to go by, there’s a lot of good snappers out there.

But there’s still plenty of time to stake your claim as the best local amateur...all you have to do is impress the judges.

I’d like to thank John, fellow Clydesdale Camera Club member Gavin Forrest and Gazette photographer Lindsay Addison for allowing me to have a (wee) bit of a say on the overall winners!

* The EXPO is being supported by ALL 12 of Lanarkshire’s photography clubs as well as a host of local art clubs and artists.

Lanark Grammar School’s photography and art groups are also delighted to be taking part in this year’s event.
