A BIG thank you to our army of readers – I was bowled over with the number of entries in the people and nature/wildlife categories!

It was a tough choice – especially in the latter category – as the standards were so high.

But I’m delighted to be able to bring you the six pictures which will go through to the finals at the 2013 Lanarkshire Art and Photography EXPO.

The category winners will now fight it out with the landscape category finalists at the EXPO for the overall first, second and third place.

Which brings me on nicely to the remainder of the contest. The next categories are events and architecture, with a closing date of Wednesday, September 25.

You must be 14 years of age or older to enter and an amateur photographer. All pictures MUST have been taken in South Lanarkshire.

Please submit pictures at 300dpi, with your name and address and stating where and when you took them to Julie Currie, Editor, 3 High Street, Carluke, ML8 4AL or email pictures, 1mb in size, to [email protected]

Pictures will be reproduced in our paper and website so MUST be your copyright.

The winners and runners up in events and architecture will be featured in the paper on October 2 – just a few days before the EXPO!

All of the winning entries will be featured at the 2013 Lanarkshire Art and Photography EXPO, where the overall winners will also be revealed.

The event will be held at Lanark Agricultural Centre on Sunday, October 6, from 10am to 4pm.

We teamed up with its organiser John Zawadzki, from Clydesdale Camera Club, to launch the photography contest and, if these pictures are anything to go by, there’s a lot of good snappers out there.

But there’s still plenty of time to stake your claim as the best local amateur...just impress the judges.

Thanks to judges John, fellow Clydesdale Camera Club member Gavin Forrest and Gazette photographer Lindsay Addison for allowing me to have a (wee) bit of a say!

* The EXPO is being supported by ALL 12 of Lanarkshire’s photography clubs as well as a host of local art clubs and artists.

Lanark Grammar School’s photography and art groups are also delighted to be taking part in this year’s event.
