Gazette tours Royal Burgh of Lanark Museum exhibition

THERE was a perhaps eerie – and definitely poignant – moment as the Gazette toured the latest annual exhibition at the Royal Burgh of Lanark Museum.

This year’s theme is Lanark in the Fifties and, at the centre of the display in the Westport building is a glass cabinet containing mementoes of the happiest day in the lives of the late Willie and Cissie Henderson ie; their wedding day back in the summer of 1957.

There alongside Cissie’s then highly fashionable wedding dress and a photograph of the happy couple on the steps of Carstairs Parish Church lies a surviving copy of the order of service for the ceremony.

For more information on this story, pick up a copy of this week’s Carluke and Lanark Gazette which is in the shops now.
