George Square decision delayed

A DECISION on the redesign of George Square has been delayed as the judging panel fail to reach an agreement.

Members of a panel – including Glasgow city council leader Gordon Matheson – have been deliberating over six controversial proposals which would provide a facelift for the city centre space.

The plan has courted controversy, as residents and councillors voiced complaints on social media about a lack of public consultation, and the fact that GCC has ignored calls to restore George Square to its former leafy look.

The decision, expected tomorrow (Friday) has now been extended until next week, and councillor Matheson commented: “It’s disappointing, but it’s important that we get this right. We will make a decision next week”.

The shortlisted designs are still available for public viewing at the Lighthouse, on Mitchell Lane.
