CERVICAL cancer is the second most common cancer in women under 35, after breast cancer.

To promote this, and cervical screening awareness week which runs from June 9 to 15, East Renfrewshire council’s CHCP is promoting awareness and encouraging women aged between 20 and 60 years to have a cervical screening test every three years.

Cervical screening, while not a test for cancer in itself, can detect abnormal cells in the cervix which can, if necessary, be treated to prevent this condition becoming a problem in the future.

The drive is supported by the Scottish government’s Detect Cancer Early campaign which aims to improve cancer survival rates by increasing the number of Scots diagnosed in the earliest stages of the disease.

The information can be found at all East Ren libraries and Clarkston Clinic.
