Getting memory-packed Co-op book could pay dividends!

A SPECIAL book has been published to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Co-op in Lennoxtown.

Two members of Campsie Local History Group have joined forces to release the souvenir celebrating the two-century milestone.

It follows a very successful exhibition marking the bicentenary of Lennoxtown Friendly Victualling Society.

It was organised by Campsie Local History and Lennoxtown Heritage and Preservation groups.

Marion Donnachie and Rena Shirreffs have produced the book ‘Happy 200th Birthday to Lennoxtown Friendly Victualling Society 1812-2012’.

Marion told the Herald: “Whenever you mention the Co-op, everyone has a story to tell. Many can still remember their ‘co-op divi number’.”

The authors hope the book will evoke memories and conjure images in the reader as well as being a keepsake.

The fascinating tome contains lots of personal memories from local people, as well as copies of old photographs and information which was on display at the exhibition in May.

The group is indebted to Co-operative Membership, Scotland, for their assistance in producing this souvenir edition and also to Janice Miller – information and archives officer at East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Cuture Trust – for her support and help.

The book, costing £4.50, is available now from group members and Lennoxtown Co-operative.

To order the book, call 07770 528267 or e-mail the group at [email protected]
