Giffnock kids dig deep to help Kenyan friends

Giffnock soccer centre’s coaches, players and parents have spent the year hosting fundraising events, ranging from casino nights to charity runs to a sports dinner.

Their effort culminated in a sponsored cycle around Europe.

Last week, the club’s primary one players handed the cheque over the Tom Cromar, who represents the Johari Foundation.

The charity works in the Kiberia slum in Kenya to provide football training to young people living in extreme poverty.

Club coach and player protection officer Stewart Daniels, who took part in the charity cycle, told The 
Extra: “We have supported the work of the Johari Foundation for a number of years now, by fundraising and sending out old strips, as well as other local charities.

This effort involved 
everyone, from our P1s, girls section, disability players right through to our amateur team.

“We are pleased to know it will make a difference.”

Tom Cromar said: “This 
donation will do so much 
to help improve opportunities for the children in Kibera.”
