Give a little love on Valentine day and help beat Angelman’s

The family of an eight-year-old pupil at Isobel Mair School are to hold an awareness and fundraising event for people with the rare congenital disorder Angelman syndrome.

Characterized by mental disability and a tendency to jerky movement, the condition is caused by the absence of certain genes on the chromosome 15.

Little Leia Campbell, from Netherlee, has the condition and she will be guest of honour as the family host a day of activities in Netherlee Scout Hall on February 15 — which is also International Angelman day — betweeen 11am and 3pm.

Mum Tracey said: “We’d also like to thank all the generous people who helped raise funds to buy an iPad through East Renfrewshire Good Causes for Leia, to help with her communication and to help fund the cost of starting her Brainwave programme.

“The purpose of the day is to help people to understand the difficulties that individuals with Angelman Syndrome have by setting up fun activities for people to try out based on her PODD communication aid and her Brainwave programme.

“Also, we hope to raise awareness of Angelman Syndrome and raise funds for some of the charities that have helped us over the years.

“We are planning to hold a raffle and other fundraising events on the day and have set up a just givingpage for people to donate.”
