Glasgow city group win award for water safety initiatives

Glasgow Life has secured one of the UK's most important awards for water safety with its commitment to help preventing drowning.

The organisation beat competition from across the UK to be crowned winner at the prestigious Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) and IQL UK Awards 2016.

At the awards ceremony recently in Staverton Park, Daventry, Glasgow Life won the Multi-Site Approved Training Centre Award (2-15 sites) for its commitment to training and developing pool lifeguards as well as for its work in promoting water safety in the local community.

Martin Symcox, one of the presenters of the awards, said: “The judges were impressed with Glasgow Life’s dedication to water safety and the quality of its work, and we’d like to congratulate them on winning this important award,”

Glasgow Life centres deliver a range of safety courses for people of all ages, including Rookie Lifeguard and Junior First Aid sessions for primary school children during the school holidays, as well as lifesaving training for the over 50s.

On receiving the award, Stuart Grierson from Glasgow Life said: “I’m very happy to receive the award on behalf of the rest of the team at the Glasgow Life Centre. We’ve worked pretty hard for it; I think we’ve won it once out of the four times we have been nominated, so we’re delighted.”
