Full list of Glasgow streets to be granted exemptions from pavement parking restrictions

Glasgow City Council has revealed 76 streets are set to be granted exemptions from pavement parking restrictions.

Penalty charge notices of up to £100 can be issued to vehicles parked on the pavement on most streets in the city since March this year.

An initial assessment found no exemption should apply on streets where parking restrictions were already in place or the carriageway was at least 7.5m wide — the width that would allow fire engines to pass through with cars on both sides.

However, hundreds of streets needed further assessment. That process has eliminated all but 76 streets from exemptions.

The streets set to become exempt are in nine council wards — Linn, Greater Pollok, Cardonald, Langside, Garscadden/Scotstounhill, Drumchapel/Anniesland, Baillieston, North East and Partick East/Kelvindale.

A full list of the streets can be found below.

Now these streets have been identified, more work will be carried out to specify the length of pavement available for parking, how much of the pavement width will be available and which side of the road is included in an exemption.

That information will form the basis of the necessary legal order, which will be developed in the first part of 2026.

A council spokesman said: “An initial pavement parking assessment excluded a majority of city streets from an exemption on enforcement. A second round of assessment has found that a small minority of streets are now eligible for an exemption from the restrictions.

“Further work is needed in relation to these streets to ensure parking arrangements do not create issues with road safety, access or congestion.

“Detailed road layout designs will be developed and we expect to begin a formal consultation in early 2026 for the traffic regulation orders needed to make the streets legally exempt.”

Streets which are currently covered by ongoing consultations on proposals for parking control zones were not included in the assessment. These areas include Broomhill/Thornwood, Sighthill, Kelvinside/Kelvindale, Dennistoun, Shawlands, Battlefield and Strathbungo.

Consideration of pavement parking exemptions in those areas will be undertaken as part of the consultation on parking zone proposals.

Streets excluded from the exemption process were subject to a survey of parking availability. It looked at whether those streets were within a modern development where parking provision should have been provided or there was available parking within 400 metres, or a 5 minute walk, from where the pavement parking was recorded.

Fines — reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days — are given for any pavement parking that forces pedestrians onto the carriageway.

Enforcement against parking next to a dropped kerb and double parking were introduced at the same time as the restrictions against pavement parking.

The council spokesman added: “Pavement parking, double parking and parking at dropped kerbs create road safety hazards across Glasgow and put vulnerable pedestrians and wheelchair users in danger every day.

“The new restrictions give our parking attendants the power to issue fines against vehicles that contravene these rules and we have been using that power across the city.
