This is a hard time, a testing time. To learn how nine lives were snatched away on a Friday night out in Glasgow. In a tragedy that nobody could ever have forseen. And to finally have it confirmed that one of the victims, John Mc Garrigle was from Cumbernauld has really brought it home.

It’s true to say that the run-up to Christmas is the time when the most heartbreaking incidents occur.

However, amidst this all, we’ve somehow been delivered something also associated with the season. It’s a gift. To hear that the revellers who had cheated death ran back to the scene to save others.
 To learn of the selflessness of all those who helped bringing food, shelter and consolation. And it’s a gift with love and hope at its core.
