Gold standard science at Busby Primary

The school has been awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM) at gold level, acknowledging Busby’s science lessons and the impact they have beyond the classroom and into the community.

Standards are assessed on four key areas; subject leadership, teachers and teaching, pupils and learning and broader opportunities.

Busby pupils are encouraged to take on the role of lab technicians, including young Cameron McGregor, who said: “I think that science is great fun. I especially love doing experiments and finding out new things.

“As a lab technician I help out with experiments and help kids that are struggling with any science.”

Sandra Curran, Busby’s science champion, credits the award to “all the hard work undertaken by our pupils and teachers.

“The rigorous award asked us to provide evidence of excellence at many levels. It was a whole school effort as throughout the process we had to show the experiences of our pupils were innovative and challenging.”

Head teacher Sharon Hunter added: “We are delighted to be the first school in East Ren to achieve this award, and the first school outside Aberdeen to earn a gold endorsement.”
