John McAllister (37) tragically lost his life when he and family dog Tain slipped into the icy waters of the Gadloch on December 18, 2011.

However, his friends and family have vowed never to forget him and have set up an annual event in his honour.

The John McAllister Memorial Tournament – incorporating the Tain Cup – will take place on Sunday, September 29, at Kirkintilloch Golf Club.

The tournament will involve some 32 golfers, followed by a fundraiser for Dogs Trust – including a raffle.

It was an idea suggested by John’s dad, Roddy, from Auchinloch. The first event was held last year.

John’s sister, Christine Johnstone, said: “My brother was a keen golfer and enjoyed days out with his friends. My dad had thought ‘how can we all get together’ and the obvious choice for them was a golf outing.

“Life’s so busy, we just thought we should take time to catch up with each other, remind ourselves we’re still here and think about John. It’s a good way to remember him.

“It went very well last year. We had a raffle at night and everybody was so generous handing in prizes.”

Although the family are still devastated by the loss of John, they are pleased that people can pay tribute to him while enjoying themselves and helping a good cause.
