Green living at Crookfur Primary

Crookfur Primary kids have helped to launch an environmental education pack promoting lessons for the school grounds, park and beyond.

Around 60 children from the Newton Mearns school and Cleeves Primary in Glasgow helped launch the green guide, written by Dams to Darnley ranger Eilidh Milne to be distributed to every nursery, primary and secondary in East Ren, as well as Hillpark, St Paul’s and their feeder schools in Glasgow.

To mark the occasion, Crookfur kids invited Eilidh and fellow rangers to lead a bug hunt in the school’s newly completed woodland.

East Renfrewshire’s convener for education and equalities, councillor Elaine Green, said: “This new environmental education pack is excellent and I’m sure will be very well used in our schools.”

Councillor Stephen Curran, executive member for education at Glasgow City Council, added: “A park is an ideal setting for teaching children about the wonders and value of the natural environment, so I’m sure this new pack will prove to be successful.”
