Gregor Tough: a tribute

The Gazette first reported two years ago how Gregor endured round-the-clock treatment for his rare form of leukaemia with his mum and dad, Louise and Calum, showering praise on the help they received from the charity Children’s Cancer Care and Support for Parents.

Prompted by this, relatives and family friends mounted a major fundraising drive for this and other cancer charities, raising several thousands of pounds.

This campaign involved events big and small, including a mass sponsored climb of Ben Nevis by a group of relatives and pals from Lanark and Carluke.

Everyone was spurred on in their efforts by the example set by the Toughs, who were leading a far from normal family life, Gregor being confined in the Edinburgh Sick Kids Hopsital for intensive treatment with Louise and Calum spending every minute they could spare at his bedside.

The end came peacefully last weekend and the family is understood to be planning a quiet, private funeral.

Gregor Tough’s name will no doubt live on in the form of continuing efforts to help other families face the near unbearable challenges this one has with such courage and dignity.
