Guidance on postal voting reissued after blunder

A MAJOR blunder by election officials has meant that some 26,000 postal vote guidance sheets have had to be re-issued - prompting red faces all round.

The News and Chronicle has learned that the issue arose not from the ballot paper itself, but on material that was intended to provide GUIDANCE for North Lanarkshire voters.

We understand that an illustration showed a cross in a ballot paper - when the Single Transferrable Vote system in use in the contest features a number instead.

Electoral officials were then forced into an extensive damage limitation exercise, to have the key guidance sheet reissued. For comment and reaction, see Wednesday’s Cumbernauld News & Kilsyth Chronicle.
