The site in Forth Walk was earmarked as a site for a leisure complex. This was initially thought to involve a cinema.

However, the plans which involve empty units such as the former Mackays premises are in fact, for a gym.

Neighbouring businesses have been sent a letter, outlining the proposal.

It has been submitted by Hamcap Cumbernauld, the company that owns the older part of the town centre in its entirety.

The plans involve the entire area right down to the loading bays for the former shops.

More information on this story will appear in next week’s Cumbernauld News.
