Hamish is turning tree stump into art

North Lanarkshire Council has commissioned an artist to turn a tree stump in Strathclyde Park into a sculpture.

Glasgow-based chainsaw carver Hamish Maxwell has been tasked with transforming the 4.5m stump, located at the bottom end of Strathclyde Loch, into a child doing a handstand.

A spokeswoman for the council said: “The orginal shape of the stump fit in well with creating a child doing a handstand.

“It is beside the Clyde play area and the idea is for the design to be fun and highlight the different activities that happen in the park, including play in the outdoors.”
