The three to four-week-old creature was discovered on a road in Bellshill and is being looked after at the charity’s National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fishcross, Clackmannanshire, where it has been named Utah.

Centre manager Colin Seddon said: “Utah is our first fox cub of the season and was probably in the process of being moved by its mother but somehow got dropped along the way.

“Once the cub is at the right age and stage to be able to survive on its own it will be released at a carefully selected site.”
