The popular event at West of Scotland FC on Glasgow Road, offers free entry to the public and Emmerdale’s Eric Pollard – actor Chris Chittell is the Chieftain again because he enjoyed it so much last year.

This family orientated day out started 44 years ago as a small fundraising event and has developed into the biggest single day out in East Dunbartonshire.

Events throughout the day include: tug of war, wrestling, pipe bands, heavies, arm wrestling and Scottish dancing. On top of that they have the haggis hurling world championship, jellympics and jelly wars (sponsored by Tesco), pipe bands, a karaoke competition in the beer tent and water wars.

They also provide fairground rides and shows, on-site catering and drinks, exhibitors, trade stalls and displays.

In addition, a new event ‘The Great Highland Bake Off’ will be part of the newly revived Milngavie Week.

The Bearsden & Milngavie Highland Games are organised by volunteers, and profits are donated to their charity partner Funding Neuro.

Funding Neuro was set up by Bearsden man Bryn Williams to raise funds for Parkinson’s Disease and other brain related disorders after he was diagnosed with the condition in 2007, aged 36.

The married father of two created a light-hearted ‘Wobbly Williams’ blog and website to provide information and support to sufferers and later founded Funding Neuro.

Organiser of the Games, Alan Oliver said: “We promise you a fantastic day out, so come along and enjoy the fun!”
