FIFTY Carstairs Junction Primary School pupils aged between P3 and P7 wowed an audience of family and friends with their performances in the Big Bang Show supported by Scottish Opera.

The youngsters – dressed in colourful costumes depicting methods of utilising energy including solar panels and windfarms – acted and sang six songs during the 40-minute production.

Carstairs Junction Primary P3/4/5 teacher Laura Forde said: “The children had all practised really hard in the run-up to the show and they did us proud on the day.

“It was only a two-hour rehearsal with the four Scottish Opera people, but the pupils loved dressing up and picked up what needed to be done very quickly.

“Scottish Opera were very impressed that children as young as P3 were taking part because normally P5 are the youngest kids involved in their shows.”

Laura and her teaching colleagues Alison Gibson (P6/7) and Nicola McCluskey (P5-7), were happy that financial support from Friends of Volunteering Clydesdale had funded Scottish Opera’s involvement.

“The Scottish Opera people narrated the show brilliantly and were excellent with the children,” Laura said.

“A lot of the watching parents said that the show was fantastic.

“They praised the kids’ enthusiasm and said it was amazing that they managed to learn all those fancy moves in just one day.”
