Health worker to raise awareness to kids about the dangers of smoking

Lynn Adams will join the tobacco team based in Beckford Street, Hamilton, on a two year secondment.

She will promote the dangers of smoking and exposure to second hand smoke, especially to babies, children and women who are pregnant.

Her role will see her promote key health messages which include making your car and home smoke free, and keeping smoke and cigarettes away from children

Lynn Said: “This is a challenge I am very much looking forward to.

“Second hand smoke contains toxins that can cause illnesses including bronchitis and asthma and children are particularly at risk to these as their lungs are still developing.”

Lynn will use a number of promotional initiatives to get the health messages across.

One she is particularly keen to use is the book ‘Jenny and the bear’, a story aimed at young children between the ages of three and six which highlight the dangers of second hand smoke.

The story is delivered to all primary one pupils across Lanarkshire and has proved to be very popular with both children and teachers.

Lynn added: “We always get such a great response from the ‘Jenny and the Bear’ story from those who hear it.

“It’s a great way for children to learn about the dangers of second hand smoking in an enjoyable way.

“It’s important parents are aware of the dangers of second hand smoking and how to protect their families from it.”
